B. Darlene Thurman

70, 106 N. Austin Ave., Abingdon, died at 2 PM Thursday, July 14, 2005 at home. She was born July 29, 1934 in Abingdon, IL, the daughter of Frederick Johann Julius and Bertha Amanda Bennett Abel. She married Martin LaVerne "Termite" Thurman on March 19, 1952 in Abingdon. He survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Steven L. (and Ruellene) Thurman, Andalusia, IL, Lawrence P. (and Peggy) Thurman, Independence, MO, and Leslie R. (and Margaret) Thurman, Abingdon, 2 daughters, Teresa D. Adkisson, Roseville, IL and Michele M. Thurman, Abingdon, 3 sisters, Dorothy (and Dale) Bonney, Gilson, IL, Betty Howard, Galesburg, IL, and Marlene (and Royal) Moore, London Mills, IL, 14 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and an infant sister. She worked at Blue Bell Manufacturing in Abingdon, Protexall Corporation, Gross Galesburg Manufacturing, Gates Rubber Company, and St. Mary's Hospital, all in Galesburg, and most recently at the Care Center of Abingdon. She attended Abingdon High School and lived all of her life in Abingdon. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Cremation will be accorded. Graveside memorial services will be 11:30 AM Monday in Abingdon Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials can be made to OSF Hospice, American Cancer Society, or the Arthritis Foundation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
