Mrs. Barbara Rutherford, 89, of Galesburg, Illinois, peacefully passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at Seminary Manor.
She was born August 22, 1934, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Leslie and Mildred (Woodley) Clark.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Frank Rutherford of Mississippi, her son Robert Britt of Galesburg, a brother, Harold Clark, a sister, Judy (James) Fox, and many nieces and nephews. She is fondly remembered by the special and caring people in her life, Rae Britt, Candy (Fox) Gardner, Raelynne Rouse and Caleb Hendricks. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Bill Clark and Bob Clark, and two sisters; Norma Connett and Pat Wilms.
Barbara graduated from Peoria Manual High School in 1953. She went on to work in the food industry, following a passion for baking. She owned and operated her own bakery, The Cake Shoppe, for many years in Bartonville, IL and a bar called “The Pack-em’ in” in Peoria, IL. Barbara went on to meet her husband, Frank, while working as a Plant Manager at Kitchen Made Pie Company in Peoria, IL. They Married in 1984. After moving to Mississippi, Barbara worked at Piper Impact in New Albany, MS. She was also known for her time at the Express Shop in New Albany, MS, where the customers became her friends
Along with baking, Barbara also loved thrifting and taking care of the people she loved. She was a hard worker and devoted mother.
Cremation will be accorded. No services are scheduled. Memorials may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
