Berwyn L. "Coonrod" Haynes

86, a resident of the Avon Nursing Home and formerly of RR St. Augustine, died at 7:05 pm Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Avon Nursing Home. He was born on January 12, 1922 in Knox County, IL to Grover and Frances Steck Haynes. He married Helen L. Lankford. To this marriage were born his children who survive him, David (and Sarah) Haynes of Canton and Roger Haynes of Galesburg Peggy Kilpatrick and Kay Haynes both of Galesburg. He later married Doris J. Button Millard. Doris preceded him in death on August 5, 1994. Coonrod is also survived by two grandchildren, Jennifer Haynes and William Haynes of Canton; a brother, Donald (and Mary) Haynes of RR St. Augustine. He was also preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. He graduated from London Mills High School. He worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department for several years and retired in 1984. He also farmed near St. Augustine for several years. He was an Army veteran of WW II and was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon. Coonrod was also an avid Chicago Cub fan. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 pm Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel followed by a private family graveside service at the Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #381.
