Catherine Ross

87 of Galesburg died at 5:59 pm Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born on July 28, 1919 in Marion, IL to John and Ida Jones Williams. She married John Albert Ross on April 10, 1937 in Macomb. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1967. Surviving is a daughter, Barbara (and Newt) McCoy of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Newt D. McCoy of Marion, IA and Michelle McCoy of Cocoa, FL; two great-grandchildren, Sara & Kyle and one step great-grandchild, Tatyana; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James Earl and J.B., and two sisters, Patsy and Esther. She was a homemaker and had lived in Abingdon most of her life. She later moved to Galesburg after the death of her husband. While living in Abingdon, she attended the Christian Church. She was also a member of the Abingdon Birthday Club and a member of the Garden Club. She enjoyed family gatherings, playing bingo and cards, shopping and in her younger years she enjoyed roller skating. She also enjoyed Sunday night suppers (homemade biscuits and gravy) at her sister-in-law, Dorothy Myers home, before Dorothy's death. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Friday, February 16, 2007 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the family.
