Charles J. Gray

74 of 300 N. Jefferson St., Apt. 505, Abingdon died at 5:53 pm Sunday, July 13, 2008 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born March 29, 1934 in Pekin, IL, a son of Elvin and Ethel Potts Gray. He married Donna Hook. They divorced. He later married Barbara Kemper on April 17, 1980 in Little York, IL. She preceded him in death on March 30, 1995. Charles was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Vern Gray and one brother, Earl Gray. He is survived by two sons, Victor (and Vicki) Gray of Abingdon, Joe Gray of Abingdon; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; one stepson, Tommy Kemper of South Pekin, IL; four brothers, Gerald of Brodhead, WI, Arthur of Edgerton, WI, Harry of Galesburg and Clifford of Nole, MO; three sisters, Eileen Wilson of Fairview, IL, Carol Montour of Suring, WI and Linda Clark of Washington, IL. Charles graduated from Brodhead High School in Brodhead, WI in 1953. He had lived in the Abingdon area most of his life. He worked for the Maytag Corporation in Galesburg for 30 years retiring in 1995. He loved working in his garden while his health allowed him to. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Blue Bell Tower, where he resided. Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
