Charles Peck Obituary

85, of 607 N. Main St. Abingdon, IL died at 8:50 PM Tuesday October 14, 2008 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Charles was born March 12, 1923 in Delong, IL the son of Clyde and Mildred Ferris Peck. He married Doras C. Williams of Galesburg on March 10, 1943 in Syracuse, NY. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Tyson (Janet) of Denver, CO, Thomas (Becky) of Colona, IL and Ronald (Mary) of Galesburg, IL; eight grandchildren, Jodie Moisant, Christopher Peck of Chicago IL, Jenna Zawadowski and Matt Peck of Denver, CO, Troy Peck of Bloomington, IL, Drew Peck of St. Louis, MO, Andrew Peck of Chicago, IL and Cougar Peck of Galesburg; five great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren. Charles was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served as chairperson of the board for 2 years. He was a member of Abingdon Rotary Club for over 40 years where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the Abingdon School Board, drove the Abingdon Senior Citizens van and volunteered at the Galesburg Orpheum Theater for 14 years. He was a Metropolitan Life Insurance Salesman for 20 years. He retired on a disability at the age of 60. He then worked for Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home in Abingdon for 15 years. He enlisted in the World War II Air Force and served for 3 years. His wife, Doras, worked at Douglas Aircraft in Chicago while he served overseas. Charles was a loving husband for 65 years, a devoted dad, granddad and great granddad. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Monday October 20, 2008 in the Abingdon United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul D. Dinges will officiate. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381.
