Charles Schleich Obituary

73 of 1453 90th St., Monmouth, formerly of Abingdon died at 3:28 am Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born on July 4, 1935 in Fulton County, IL near Ellisville to William Byron and Zelpha Mae (Schrodt) Schleich. He married Betty J. Miller on June 13, 1954 in Macomb. He later married Juanita G. Cox on November 21, 1987 in Macomb. Chuck is survived by his wife, Juanita; his children, Deborah West of Galesburg, Cindy (and Pat) Flaherty of Galesburg, Charles W. Schleich of Avon and Rhonda (and William) Cassell of Galesburg; three step-children, Clifford (and Deb) Elliott, Brad (and Tina) Elliott and Tammy Hayburn all of Monmouth; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (and Teresa) Schleich of Monmouth; four sisters, Rose (and Don) Gianessi of Pekin, Ruth Quigley of Moline, Alice (and Larry) Plate of Adair and Mary Jane Schleich of Abingdon. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother, two grandchildren, two step-sons and one step-grandson. Chuck graduated from Macomb High School. He worked at the McDonough County Farm Bureau for two years, Algonquine Redi Mix for eight years, farmed in the Abingdon area for 45 years, retiring in 2006. He then worked part-time for RYCO Ag Products in Bushnell for two years. He was a member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge #185 and was a 32nd degree mason. He was also a member of the Shrine. He enjoyed history especially the Civil War Era and he like to travel. Family was very important to Chuck and he loved spending as much time as he could with all of them. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at the chapel. In honor of Chuck, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
