55 of 307 W. Martin St. died at 2:20 pm Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center ER in Galesburg. He was born on September 23, 1951 in Galesburg to Charles and Erma Jean Courson Welty. He married Susan Parkhurst on August 10, 1985 in Morning Sun, IA. She survives. He is also survived by a sister, Linda (and Bill) Morris of Abingdon; an aunt, Ruby Swigert of RR Abingdon and cousins, his in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Stephen Welty. Charles lived in the Abingdon area all his life. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1969 and later from Carl Sandburg Jr. College with a degree in Agriculture. He also attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. He farmed west of Abingdon with his grandpa Courson and later by himself. He was currently employed in the building service department at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg where he worked the past seven years. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. He had also belonged to the Square Dance Club and recently became a member of the Abingdon Garden Club. He enjoyed working in his garden and doing yard work. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the family.
