78,1750 Cardinal Dr. Galesburg, died at 10:55 am Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born November 12, 1924 in Abingdon to Cleve and Alice Thomas Gillenwater Sr. He married Josephine C. Hermans on February 2, 1946 in Belgium. She preceded him in death on November 29, 1991. He married Sandra Cawkins Wallace in May of 1994 in Galesburg. She survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Vera (and Robert) Fornander of Henderson; three sons, John (and Mary) Gillenwater of West Branch, Iowa, Jim M. Gillenwater of Georgeia and Anthony (and Shawna) Gillenwater of Galesburg; 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death also by his parents and five brothers. He grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1943. While in high school, he was very active in sports and was a 2002 inductee to the Don Viar Wall of Fame at Abingdon High School. He was a plumber and had worked for Norman Mower Plumbing in Galesburg. He later was self employeed in Abingdon and last worked for Galesburg School District 205 for over 20 years retiring in 1990. He had lived in Abingdon, Lake Bracken and Galesburg all of his life. He was a past member of Lake Bracken Country Club and the Abingdon Rotary Club. He was an Army veteran of WW II. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Galesburg. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Eleanor Landon officiating. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service on Saturday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Abingdon Public Schools Foundation.
