70 of 504 N. Maple St. died at 12:58 pm Saturday, March 12, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg with her loving family at her side. She was born on April 15, 1934 in Christopher, IL to John W. and Monnie "Mick" Lee McBride, who preceded her in death. She married Dennis Paul Grider on December 20, 1953 in Springfield. He survives. In her own words "the greatest achievement I had in this world were you four kids", John Alan (and Amy) Grider of Freeport, IL/Milwaukee, WI and Paul "Jay" (and Andrea) Grider of East Peoria, Ja'nice Rae (and Mike) Barrs of Algonquin and Jenell Lee (and Bryan) Simpson of Abingdon; 7 Grandchildren, Abigail, Zachory, Jenna, Erin, Ronnie and the "twins" Olivia and Nathanial. She graduated from Lamphier High School in Springfield. She had lived in Abingdon since 1958 and prior to that had lived in Springfield, Princeton, Paxton and Monmouth. She worked for the Illinois Department of Public health in Springfield. She then was the accountant and bookkeeper for the former Stegall Insurance Agency and later the Harmon & Harmon Insurance Agency in Abingdon. She was also the bookkeeper for the former Bud's Liquor Store and Backdoor Bar in Abingdon. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church, where she assisted with the summer vacation bible school program. She served on the board of the John Mosser Public Library and was the treasurer for several years. She was a member and past president of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Tuesday Card Club. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Abingdon Christian Church. Rev. Raymond McLaren will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church, John Mosser Public Library or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
