Connie Elaine McGrew Wilson

65 of 108 ½ E. Meek St. died Monday, May 11, 2009 at her home. She was born on July 21, 1943 in Galesburg, the daughter of Lyle and Mary (Woolem) McGrew. Connie is survived by her children Diana (and Tim Peacock) Thurman of RR Abingdon, Suzanne Magee of Alexis and Michael J. Thurman of RR Abingdon; her granddaughters, Catherine, Jennifer and Sarah Magee; her brothers, Jim (and Jackie) McGrew of RR Gilson and Buddy (and Kim) Thurman of East Galesburg; and nieces (Jan and Melanie) and nephews (Mark, Brian and Trey). She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Mike Magee. She had lived in the Abingdon area all her life. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1961. She later graduated from Beauty School in Galesburg. Connie had worked at the Charm Center Beauty Salon since 1965 and became the owner in 1980. She had also taught cosmetology at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. She was a member of the Audubon Society and the Abingdon Pottery Collectors Club. Connie enjoyed the countryside and was an avid "road rider". She loved her cat(Pinky)and loved to spend time with her family and granddaughters. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the family for memorial funds selected later to honor Connie.
