Craig Sanford

58 of RR Abingdon died at 10:41 am Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born on August 22, 1946 in Canton to Max and Frances Platt Sanford. He married Teresa Reynolds on Dec. 27, 1968 in Galesburg. She survives. Also surviving are his mother, Frances Sanford of RR Gilson; three daughters, Jodi (and Kyle) McMillan of Ohio, IL, Jill (and Jared) Frueh of Ohio, IL and Jenel Sanford of RR Abingdon; one granddaughter, Lauren McMillan; two sisters, Jennifer (and Arvil) Bass of Peoria and Karen (and Gary) Van Hise of Riverton; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Kirk Sanford. He grew up in the DeLong area on the family farm and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1964. He received his Bachelor's degree from Illinois State University and obtained his Master's degree in Agriculture Education from the University of Illinois. He farmed in Knox and Warren counties for 31 years. He also taught Ag in Knoxville and Chatham, IL. He recently retired from Carl Sandburg College where he was the Agriculture and Vocational Welding Instructor. He also was the coach for the Livestock and Meat Judging teams while at the college. He was a member of the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg and served on the church board and on several committees of the board. He was a member of FFA Organization, State FFA Foundation, Knox County Farm Bureau, Jaycees, Illinois Association of Community College Agriculture Instructors, Warren County Fair Board, Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture, Post Secondary Agriculture, served on the Board of Directors for Farm Service, was a 4-H Leader for the Warren County Willing Workers, Past member of the Abingdon School Board and the Abingdon Community Festival Association. Services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday at the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg. Rev. Linda Anderson and Rev. Tom Heather will officiate. Burial will be in Haynes Cemetery near DeLong. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Foundation FFA, 3221 Northfield Dr. Springfield, IL 62702.
