Darrel L. "Ash" Ashley

72 of Abingdon passed away at 11:40 pm Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born on April 8, 1936 in Beardstown, IL to Edward and Pauline Icenogle Ashley. He married Bonnie Morss and later married Bonnie Sorrells. Darrel is survived by his daughter, Kyle (and Douglas) Martin of Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren, Jessica (and Nicholas) Corthier of Indianapolis, IN and Trevor Martin of Bloomington, IN; a brother, Larry (and Della) Ashley of Abingdon; a sister, Janet (and Tom) Prior of London Mills; and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Darrel graduated from Abingdon High School. He worked at the Abingdon Pottery for 44 years, retiring in 1998. He was a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and often reminded his Cub friends of the number of championships that the Cardinals had won. Darrel also enjoyed following boys and girls sports at the Abingdon Schools. He enjoyed helping people and visiting friends at the Care Center of Abingdon. Thank you, Abingdon for being his friend. Cremation was accorded. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Abingdon Christian Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials in honor of Darrel may be made to Abingdon High School Athletics Booster Club c/o Abingdon High School, 600 W.
