Dennis Wieneke

Dennis Wieneke, 75, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026. Born in Pike County, Illinois, Dennis was the second son of Ralph and Mary Wieneke. He grew up a farm boy, attending Pike County High School, where he lettered in both football and track before graduating in 1970.

Following graduation, Dennis proudly joined the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge, he continued his service to the nation as a United States Postal Carrier. As he often joked, enduring the harsh Midwest weather could be as challenging as any battlefield. He later transferred to Florida, where he completed his career and eventually retired. Retirement brought Dennis back home to Pleasant Hill, Illinois, where he pursued a dream of transforming an old concrete grain silo into a summer home.

True to his determined nature, he accomplished exactly that. Even after suffering a heart attack in 2014 that left him with only 20% heart function, Dennis refused to slow down. He completed the silo, creating a one-of-a-kind work of art. During the winter months, he could often be found at his Florida home or aboard his beloved boat, The Salty Dog.

Dennis was a soldier to the very end. When his time came, he was ready. He lived life fully and left this world without regret for a life unlived or words left unsaid. He spent his final days with his daughter by his side, enjoying chocolate milkshakes and finding peace in a life he knew was complete.

Dennis will be remembered as a veteran, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the lives he touched will live on in those fortunate enough to have known him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Wieneke. He is survived by his daughter, Molly Wieneke of Quincy, Illinois; his grandsons, Jonathon Fedler of Michigan and Tanner Fedler of Quincy, Illinois; his brothers, Mike and Kevin Wieneke; his sister, Mary; and their respective families.
