Dolly L. (Gutierrez) Sundell

Dolly L. Sundell, 77, of Galesburg, died at 4:40 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2022, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

She was born August 25, 1944, in Galesburg, the daughter of Alex and Ramona (Gimenez) Gutierrez.  She was married to Gary Sundell and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by three children, Todd (Vanessa) Sundell of Chandler, Arizona, Kathy Wright of Princeville, and Steve (Deb) Otto of the state of Oregon; nine grandchildren, Aaron (Lisa) Smith, Gregg (Rachel) Smith, Zach Smith, Sawyer (Jake) Simpson, Chandler Simpson-Sundell, Tia Taliaffero, Rebekah (Brian) Smith, Meraiah Sundell, and Jubilee Sundell; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Ramon (Diana) Gutierrez of Kerrville, Texas, Larry (Rosemarie) Gutierrez of Galesburg, and David Gutierrez of Galesburg; two sisters, Esther Fox of Galesburg, and Regina Hodge of Galesburg; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Alejandro “Sonny” Gutierrez; and a sister, Theresa “Pamper” Gutierrez.

Dolly began her working life at the former OMC.  She then worked in the admissions and financial aid offices at Knox College for 25 years before retiring.  Currently, Dolly was working as a customer service representative at Dick Blick.  She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1962.  She was of Christian faith.  Dolly was a tireless volunteer for Relay for Life, the Ability Project, and Art in the Park, among others

Dolly was a very loving woman.  Not only was she a light for her family, but for all those who encountered her.  She continually kept in contact with nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Jonathan Baker officiating.  Cremation will be accorded following the service.
