Donald Baker Obituary

65 of RR 1, Oquawka and formerly of the Abingdon area died at 4:25 pm Saturday, June 16, 2007 at his home near Oquawka He was born on January 1, 1942 in Macomb to Donald W. and J. Irene "Pug" VanVelsor Baker. He was raised by his mother and Gerald Preble. He married Kathleen Hickerson. He later married Jeanette Sue Mundy Friend. Don is survived by two sons, Jerry (and Julie) Baker of Avon and Donald (and friend Tammie Sloan) Baker, Jr. of Galesburg; 3 grandchildren; two brothers, Kendall Furniss of Media and Ronald Wayne Baker of RR 1 Oquawka; stepchildren, Debbie Tabb, Bill Friend, Bob Friend and Dave Friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Preble, a son Kevin Baker and a brother, Robert Furniss. He had lived near Oquawka the past 11 years and prior to that had lived west of Abingdon in Warren County. He attended Abingdon Schools. He retired from the Maytag Corporation after working for 30 years. He worked in the Maintenance Department. He served in the US Army. His hobbies included flat track motorcycle racing in his younger days, hunting, fishing, eagle watching near the Mississippi River, watching local dirt track car races and going to the Sturgis Rally, which he attended the past 3 years. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Dick Ginther will officiate. Burial will be in Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel.
