82, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon, died at 4:00 am Saturday, October 8, 2005 at the Care Center. He was born May 2, 1923 in Chestnut Township, Knox County, IL to Alfred and Ethel Meadows Button. He married Norma Kilpatrick Severns on November 10, 1985 in Monmouth. She survives. Also surviving are nephews and nieces including Lonnie (Debbie) Millard of Eagle River, WI; Jackie Snyder of RR Abingdon; his caregiver; great nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and nieces; three stepdaughters, Joyce VanSkike and Debbie Watkins of Abingdon, Cathy (Rev. Ken) Klein of Marquette Heights ; two stepsons, Kenneth (Katy) Severns and Jerry (Connie) Severns of Abingdon. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Doris Haynes and one half-brother, Ralph Button, two half-sisters, Nellie Turner and Margaret Kalb, one stepson, Rodney Severns. He had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He worked for the City of Abingdon for several years. He was an Army veteran of WW II and a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Monday at the chapel.
