78, of 105 N. Harshbarger St., Abingdon, IL died Friday, November 7, 2003 at 12:10 AM at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL. He was born November 29, 1924 in Abingdon, IL to Jesse and Edna F. Baldwin Peck. He married Berneda M. Chambers in Abingdon, IL on August 26, 1963. She preceded him in death April 15, 1977. He is survived by a sister, Doris Peck of Knoxville, IL, a nephew, Kenneth Peck of Abingdon, IL, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother, Doran Peck. He worked for Briggs Manufacturing Co. in Abingdon for 42 years retiring in 1989. He served in the US Army as a Medic during World War II from May 1943 to December 1945 receiving a Bronze Star. He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 and the Galesburg Rifle Club. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 10, 2003 at Abingdon (IL) Cemetery with Mrs. Eleanor Landon officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.
