Donald Schoenbein Obituary

Mr. Donald C. Schoenbein, 87, of Maquon, Illinois passed away on Monday January 9, 2023 at 5:10 PM, at his home.

Donald was born to Carl F. and Mary E. (Simpson) Schoenbein, on March 8, 1935 in Peoria, Illinois. He later married the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Evelyn A. (Doubet) Shoenbein.

Donald is survived by his wife Evelyn, his daughter, Cynde (Brian) Onion of Abingdon, Illinois; his sister, Sharon Snyder of Peoria; his grandchildren, Bradley (Angie) Onion of Princeville, Illinois, Jeff Onion, of Abingdon, and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Gregory Schoenbein, his brother, William Schoenbein, and a sister-in-law, Hazel Schoenbein.

Donald was raised in Elmwood, graduating from Elmwood High School in 1953. He had served in the United States Army for two years before settling in Maquon as a grain and livestock farmer with his wife Evelyn. Both Donald and Evelyn were a part of the Nomads Mission Volunteers, where they traveled the south and did missionary work for families in need. Donald had been very devoted to his own community as well as assisting in communities abroad. He had spent much time in many different community and church boards. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and had even served as the church’s board chairman. Donald also served as the Farm Bureau’s director and on the Abingdon School Board, as well as volunteering as a 4-H Leader for the Cedar Chestnut 4-H Club. No matter what board or organization Donald was a part of, he was a source of positivity for his community.

As per Donald’s wishes, cremation is being accorded. A Memorial Visitation is scheduled from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Abingdon United Methodist Church with a Memorial Service to follow. Pastor Connor Morrison is officiating. Memorials may be made to Abingdon United Methodist Church or to the Nomads Missions Volunteers. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
