Doris Moore Obituary

77, of Abingdon, died at 5:34 PM Monday, May 5, 2008 in Morton Villa Care Center, Morton, IL. She was born May 2, 1931 in Cutler, IL, the daughter of William M. and Ruth Williams Cottom. She married Robert Moore on December 10, 1950 in Owaneco, IL. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2006. She is survived by a son, Kenneth Moore of Peoria, IL, 2 daughters, Kathleen (and Dennis) Overstreet of Morton, IL and Arlene (and Jim) Smith of Murfreesboro, TN, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Joan (and Carl) Schisler of Galesburg and Pat (and Jerry) Kruse of Palm Desert, CA. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Dorothy Humphreys and a great granddaughter. Doris worked for the Abingdon Ben Franklin Store in the fabric and craft department and at the Galesburg Sewing Center for many years. She received great joy from helping others with their crafts and sewing. Growing up, she helped her parents on their dairy farm and after her marriage she helped her husband with the farming. She attended the Maquon High School and graduated from Gilson High School. Doris was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Abingdon, where she had been the superintendent of the Sunday school, was a youth sponsor, and served on various other committees. She also was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was the chairperson of the Abingdon Scenic Drive Committee for many years. She was a gallon donor for the American Red Cross. Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 1 PM Friday at the United Methodist Church of Abingdon. The Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Burial for both Robert and Doris will immediately follow the memorial service in McCallister Cemetery, rural Gilson, IL.
