83, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon, died at 8:45 pm Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the Care Center. She was born on November 10, 1922 in Quincy, IL to Walter and Mary Leffers Pieper. She married Leonard L. Clutts in Missouri in 1939. She later married Conrad C. Hale in Abingdon, IL on July 19, 1970. He preceded her in death May 28, 1994. Surviving are one son, Larry (and Barbara) Clutts of Morton, IL; three daughters, Shirley (and Joe) Cantrell of Flower Mound, TX, Nancy (and Fred) Bailey of RR Alexis, IL and Carolyn McCraith of Metamora, IL; one stepson, Richard (and Kathy) Hale of Knoxville, IL; 17 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren; a brother, William Pieper of Berwick; four sisters, Edna Smith of Macomb, Evelyn (and Dwight) Goodin of Galesburg, Alice (and Frank) Henry of New Orleans, LA and Betty (and Charles) Connor of Good Hope; a sister-in-law, Nancy Pieper of Bushnell. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son-in-law, Don McCraith and one brother, Walter Pieper She graduated from Brooklyn High School, Brooklyn, IL in 1939. She worked as an inspector at the former American Sanitary Company (Brass Factory) in Abingdon for 25 years and later as a Nurse's Aide at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville for 10 years retiring in November 16, 1986. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, November 26, 2005 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Paul Dinges and Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 10:45 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
