Dorothy Stockham Obituary

81 of Galesburg, formerly of Prairie City died at 9:10 pm Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born on September 24, 1927, a daughter of Ed and Nora Prieb Davis. She married Richard "Dick" L. Stockham on June 22, 1948 at the Abingdon Christian Church Parsonage. He survives. Dorothy is also survived by her children, Jean (and Ernest) Twiss of Abingdon, John (and Cheryl) Stockham of Molalla, OR, Susan Czapla of Davenport, IA and Nancy (and Steve) Hall of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and one on the way; a sister, Ina "Elaine" Jolliff in Mississippi and a brother D. L. Davis of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents. Dorothy had lived in Galesburg the past six weeks and prior to that she and Dick made their home in Prairie City for 52 years. She had worked at the Blue Bell Company and the art ware shipping department at the Abingdon Pottery. She later worked as a cook at the Westfall Nursing Home in Prairie City. She was a homemaker and "The Best Mom". She was of the Methodist Faith, having belonged to the Abingdon United Methodist Church and later the Prairie City Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting ceramics, collecting Abingdon Pottery, sewing, gardening and she loved to cook. Dorothy also had two special companions, Anna and Jade, her beloved German Shepherds. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or to the Mississippi Valley German Shepherd Rescue Society.
