Earl Howard Obituary

85 of 407 Memorial Drive died at 1:50 pm Saturday, January 22, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born on April 28, 1919 in near Good Hope in McDonough County to Carl and Lillie Jones Howard. He married Elizabeth Beer on June 12, 1948 in Avon. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, John (and Nadine) Howard of Fisher, IN and Jim (and Mary) Howard of Abingdon; one sister, Helen Papie of Monmouth; two grandchildren, Adam Howard and Elise Howard. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Howard. He graduated from Blandinsville High School in 1937. He had lived in Abingdon since 1945. He worked as a bookkeeper at Dechow Motor Company and Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan and later as an accountant at the Abingdon Pottery from 1954 until retiring in 1981. He was an Army veteran of WW II and was a member and past commander of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and a member of the former Abingdon Jaycees. Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at the Avon Cemetery. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #381. Friends may call from 6:00 é
