Edith Tinkham Obituary

85 of Abingdon died at 6:57 am Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. She was born on February 16, 1924 in Berwick, IL, the daughter of Clarence David and Minnie Mae (Danner) Guiter. She married Carl "Eldon" Hunt. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1957. She later married Harry E. Tinkham on January 18, 1958 in Galesburg. Harry preceded her in death on April 6, 1990. Edith is survived by her children, Sharon Kay Brady Lonas, Danny E. (and Connie) Hunt and Debra (and Tom) Keith all of Abingdon; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Clara Tabb of Abingdon and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Cecil Henry Guiter and Earl D. Guiter and three sisters, Eleanor Courson, Evelyn Morrison and Bessie Guiter and a grandson, Jerry Brady, her son-in-laws, Donald Brady, Danny Hunter and Tom Lonas, her daughter-in-law, Patricia Hunt. Edith had lived in the Abingdon area most all of her life. She cooked for area thrashers at a young age. She then worked at the former Abingdon Blue Bell Company. She later worked in the dietary department at the Abingdon Nursing Home for 30 years. She also managed the Rolling Meadow Trailer Park in Abingdon for several years. She was baptized at the General Baptist Church in Abingdon and later attended the Abingdon Apostolic Harvest House in Abingdon, where she was also baptized. Edith was known for her cooking baking and enjoyed feeding her family and friends. She had won several 1st place ribbons from the Abingdon Community Festival and the Knox County Fair for her pies. Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Pastor Danny Hunt, her son, will officiate. Burial of cremains will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 pm Friday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Care Center of Abingdon Dietary Department.
