Edith Welch

90, a resident of Seminary Manor in Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon died at 10:24 am Friday, December 7, 2007 at Seminary Manor. She was born on August 14, 1917 in Elmwood, IL to Frank and Fairy Walker Carter. She married Dale Welch on November 25, 1936 in Princeville, IL. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2001. Edith was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald Welch, two brothers and a sister. Surviving is one son, Robert (and Catherine) Welch of Port Washington, WI; two brothers, Earl Carter of Galesburg, IL and Eugene Carter of Bartonville, IL; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Edith was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Eastern Star service and funeral service will be at 11:00 am Monday, December 10, 2007 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Monday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital Burn Unit.
