80 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon died at 9:12 pm Saturday, May 30, 2009 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on June 18, 1928 in St. Paul, Nebraska, a son of Edd Byron and Emma A. (Pedersen) Schenck. He married Bernie M. Carlson on April 19, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa. She survives. Ed is also survived by two sons, Ed Jr. (and Bonnie) Schenck of Abingdon and Dan (and Cindy) Schenck of Galena; one daughter, Jeanie (and Rick) Hanna of Abingdon; a former daughter-in-law, Paula Schenck Brackett of Abingdon; 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Rudie Schenck, a granddaughter Diana Rose Ann Hanna and a sister Anne Zauhar. Ed had lived in Abingdon for 50 years. He was an Amoco Dealer/Jobber for 46 years retiring in 1995. He was a past volunteer fireman and Captain for the Abingdon Fire Protection District Abingdon Station and had also served as secretary for the Trustees of the Fire District. He was an active member of the Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association and was a member and past official at Young's Lake near Kirkwood, IL. He had lived in Galesburg the past 6 years. Ed was an accomplished carpenter/builder. He played a major part in building 12 different homes and in repairing and remodeling countless others. He was always on hand to help anyone, friend or family, with projects of any magnitude. He was proficient in almost every kind of mechanical repair or building. He was a licensed pilot and loved flying. He shared his hobby with his son, Rudie. They each owned a plane and co-owned another. This was a highlight in his life. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Ed's son, Rev. Dan Schenck will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Fire Protection District or to Young's Lake.
