80, a resident of the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, formerly of Hermon died at 12:01 am Friday, May 7, 2004 at the nursing home. He was born on January 26, 1924, in Rozetta Township, Henderson County to Bishop Hershel and Bertha Agnes Cox Gilbert. He married Alberta Kilpatrick on September 14, 1948 in Lamar, CO. Surviving are two daughters, Sue Daniels of Galesburg and Maria (unknown); two sons, Jake Gilbert, Jr. of Galesburg and Marvin Gilbert; one sister, Aline (and Sam) Shotts of Galesburg; three brothers, Tom (and Clara) Gilbert of Abingdon, Chester (and Sharon) Gilbert and Lester (and Erma) Gilbert both of Petersburg, IL; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. He served in the US Navy during WW II aboard the U.S.S. Iowa. He was a lifetime member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon. He was a truck driver for 38 years and had worked for the former Burlington Northern Truck Lines in Galesburg and for Nausbaum Trucking in Bloomington. Services will be at 2:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Monday at the chapel.
