80, of 300 N. Jefferson St. Apt. 401 and formerly of Hermon, died at 9:10 am Thursday, September 18, 2003 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born on February 14, 1923 near Lake Bracken in Knox County, IL to John and Matilda Emert Skinner. He married Lelah Slagel on May 9, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Dan (and Teresa) Skinner of RR St. Augustine and Bill Skinner of Galesburg; two sisters, Nydia Morris and Doris Clampitt both of Abingdon; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five brothers. He graduated from Gilson High School in 1941. He farmed near Hermon for 30 years and served as the township tax assessor for Chestnut, Maquon, Salem and Elbea townships for nine years. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Abingdon. He was a member of the Gideons Interntional since 1972, a charter member of Spoon River Antique Agriculture Association, member of TRIAD and volunteered as a Sunday school teacher at the Care Center of Abingdon for many years. Cremation will be accorded. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday at the First Assembly of God Church in Abingdon with Rev. Todd Henderson officiating. Burial of cremains will follow the service in the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon is in Charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Gideons International or Community Hospices of America.
