Fern L. Westover

Mrs. Fern L. Westover age 94 of 801 W. Martin St. Abingdon, Il. died Thursday April 3, 2008 at 11:25 AM at the Care Center of Abingdon. She was born December 13, 1913 in Elliot, Ia. the daughter of Benjamin F. "Frank" and Amanda Fisher Cozad. She married William E. Westover July 5, 1932 in Marysville, Mo.. He preceded her in death October 1, 1956. She is survived by four daughters Audrey F. Powell of Canton, Il., Barbara and Karroll Combs of Fairview, Il., Linda Case of Des Moines, Ia., and Susan and Larry Trego of Monmouth, Il., one daughter-in-law Elaine Westover of Abingdon, Il., seventeen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and thirteen great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons William F. and Robert Westover, one granddaughter and one grandson. She graduated from Grant High School in Grant, Ia. where she was valedictorian of her class. She was baptized in the Grant Iowa Methodist Church. She ran the Westover Café in London Mills, Il. for ten years, then was a nurses aide at the Galesburg Research Hospital for twenty one years retiring in 1974, then was a clerk for eight years at the Ben Franklin Store in Abingdon retiring in 1986. She moved from Iowa in 1940 to the Avon and London Mills area before moving to Abingdon in 1963. Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday April 7, 2008 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Rev. Paul Dinges and Eleanor Landon officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will at 11 AM Tuesday at Grant Cemetery in Grant, Ia. with Rev. Gerald Wiser officiating. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Methodist Church or the Activity Fund at the Care Center of Abingdon.
