Frances Schisler Obituary

79 of 109 W. Sanitary Road died at 2:03 am Saturday, December 18, 2004 at her home. She was born on September 24, 1925 in Cuba, IL to Elmer L. and Gladys Porter Clifford. She married William C. Schisler on January 26, 1946 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son Verlon Schisler, Sr., daughter-in-law, Sharon Schisler, son-in-law, Ed Behymer and nephew, Arthur Dixon. Surviving are one son, Carl (Joni) Schisler of Galesburg; two daughters, Evaleen Batson of Delong and Jeanine Behymer of Modoc, IL; one step daughter, Rita Kay Schisler Penkwitz of Port Washington, WI; three sisters, Louise Whitenack of Abingdon, Bertha Kilburn of RR Abingdon and Maxine Davis of Abingdon, 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She moved to rural St. Augustine with her family in 1931. She graduated from Avon High School in 1943. She had lived in Abingdon since her marriage in 1946. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church, where she was a member of the Cum-B-One Sunday School Class. She also served as a deaconess. She was a member of the Rebekah Circle of the church. She was a member of the St. Augustine Home Bureau, where she served as president from 1960-61. She was a member of the Knox County Home Bureau, where she served as secretary from 1961-1963. She was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary since 1950, where she held the office of president on five different terms. She was a member of the Knox County American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as president for three different terms and was the secretary/treasurer from 1958-1959. She was a former Brownie Scout leader, Cub Scout leader and assistant Girl Scout leader. She started work at Admirals in 1965 and later retired in 1981 when it was known as Magic Chef. She also volunteered at the Care Center of Abingdon and for the American Red Cross Blood Canteen at the Abingdon American Legion for many years. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Rex Kilburn, her nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday evening at the chapel. Memorials may be made to her church or the Care Center of Abingdon Volunteer Department.
