Francis M. Ross

91 of 300 N. Jefferson St., Apt 501 and formerly of Bushnell died at 11:10 pm Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was born on September 4, 1915 near Greenbush in Warren County, IL to Marjorie Opal Ross. He married Thelma Brewer on January 10, 1937 in Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death in 1970. He later married Helen Morss Boyd on February 7, 1971 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death in 2003. Francis is survived by a daughter, Cindy (and John) Ringer of Towanda, IL; a son, Terry (and Sandra) Ross of Rockford, IL; 2 grandchildren, Troy Ross and Venessa (and Adam) Powell, all of Rockford; three stepsons, Jerry (and Deanna) Boyd of Little Swan Lake, Avon, IL, Jim (and Dorie) Boyd of Galesburg and Mike (and Penny) Boyd of Abingdon; several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren. He graduated from Bushnell High School in 1935. He worked for Vaughan & Bushnell Manufacturing in Bushnell for 38 years. He had lived in Bushnell most of his life and wintered in Plant City, FL for several years. He had lived in Abingdon since 1993. He served in the US Navy prior to and during WW II and was in the invasion of Normandy. He was a member and past commander of the Bushnell VFW Post #1422 and was a member of the honor guard. He was also a member of the Navy League and a member of Tugboat Sailors. While living in Abingdon, he attended the Church of God of Prophecy. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Monday, June 18, 2007 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Warren Cummins and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Bushnell Township Cemetery with military rites by the Bushnell VFW Post #1422. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to VFW Post #1422.
