Gabriel "Gabe" Jones Obituary

Gabriel Q. “Gabe” Jones, of Knoxville, Illinois, peacefully passed away at 10:42 AM on February 6, 2024, in his home after a long courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family.

Gabe came roaring into this world on March 24, 1977, in Macomb, Illinois, as the son of Scott M. and Georgia S. (Brown) Jones. Later in life, he married Stacey T. Shepherd on November 1, 2008, in Galesburg.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Stacey of Knoxville; his beautiful children, Quinten and twins, Aubrey and Lucas; his parents, Scott and Georgia Jones of Industry, Illinois; his brother, Shawn (Heather) Jones of Colchester, Illinois; and his sister, Jennifer (John) Jones-Ogle of Macomb, Illinois. Gabe is also survived by his aunt, Polly Jones of California; his uncle, Jack Brown of Vermont, Illinois; his in-laws, Gale and Lori Shepherd of Knoxville; two sisters-in-law, Dawn Shepherd-Brown (Josh Smith) and Krista (David) Gunther, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Keith and Elaine Jones; his grandfather, Vorice Brown; his grandmother, Wanda Brown; and uncles, Stanley Brown and Randy and Rick Jones.

Gabe was raised in Industry and graduated from Industry High School in 1995. He went on to attend Spoon River College and completed his studies at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa, specializing in powerline technology.

Gabe began working for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 51 (IBEW) and enjoyed every aspect of being a journeyman/lineman. He especially loved the unconditional and everlasting brotherly bond the profession gave him. Gabe was fearless and constantly loved a good challenge. He could often be found dangling from a helicopter working on a powerline! He always referred to himself as a thrill seeker from the word “go”. Gabe continued his extreme job for 24 years before he was no longer able to work.

Gabe was a true believer in “work hard, play harder!” As a family, they enjoyed traveling to Wisconsin or just to the crick on the farm for an adventure on their side-by-side and four-wheelers. Gabe attended and never missed the chance to be involved with all of the children’s school or sporting events. Gabe’s charismatic attitude and fun-loving sarcastic personality have created so many unforgettable memories that will live on through his friends and family.

A Celebration of Gabe's Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 pm Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Trinity Academy (formerly the Industry High School) 306 E. South Street, Industry, Illinois.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a memorial in Gabe’s memory.  Online condolences and memories may be left on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
