Gary R. Wiley

67 of RR Abingdon, died at 5:25 am Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on February 20, 1936 in Louisa County, Iowa to Harvey and Esther Wiley. He married Betty Blair on December 12, 1959 in Galesburg. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Lynn Jones of Abingdon; one son, Scott Wiley of Abingdon; six grandchildren; two brothers, Tobe Wiley of Wapello, IA and Richard Wiley of Muscatine, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He graduated from Morning Sun, Iowa High School and attended Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA. He played professional baseball pitcher with the New York Yankee organization and later served as a scout. He worked at the former Rowe Mfg. in Galesburg for ten years and later became the manager of the heating and air conditioning division of May Company in Galesburg. He managed the Galesburg Merchants baseball team, coached little league baseball in Abingdon for several years. He was of the Methodist Faith. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Rev. Paul Dinges and Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.
