61 of 401 S. Pennsylvania Ave. died at 10:30 pm Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on July 16, 1943 in Baxter Springs, KS to Claude and Demma D. Gifford Smith. He married Christine Fetterer on June 19, 1965 in St. Augustine, IL. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Pamela Peterson of Galesburg, Bridgette (and Dean) Davison of Abingdon, Laura (and Brian) Hunt of Dahinda and Rebecca (and Jared) Batson of Abingdon; eight grandchildren; four brothers, Bill (and Gloria) Smith of Galesburg, Harold (and Alice) Smith, Delbert (and Betty) Smith and Marty Smith all of Abingdon; three sisters, Charlotte Mears of East Galesburg, Sharon Bell of Peoria and Mary (and Don) Cunningham of Galesburg; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Carroll. He had lived in Abingdon since 1948. He worked at Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon as a caster for 37 years. He attended the First Assembly of God Church in Abingdon. He was a past director for the Pottery Credit Union and served in the US Navy. Services will be at 10:00 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Friday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to his family.
