82, of 203 W. Latimer St. died at 8:45 am Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the Care Center of Abingdon. She was born on April 27, 1921 in Abingdon to Larry and Zoe Stegall Billings. She married Pat Bauer on December 17, 1949 at the All Souls Catholic Church in Abingdon. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, William (and Carolyn) Bauer of Glasford, IL and Gerald (and Bienvenida) Bauer of Luqillo, Puerto Rico; five grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Emery of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Margaret Ruth Smith. She enlisted in the Army in September of 1943 as a WAC. She served overseas in Europe and was in the Battle of Northern France. She received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Bronze Star, the WAC Service Ribbon, Two Overseas Service Bars, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. She was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon and was a past member of the Legion Auxiliary. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1940. She had worked at the Abingdon Telephone Office, the Galesburg Airport, and the Abingdon Pottery. She wrote the Abingdon News for the Galesburg Register-Mail for many years. She also sold the World Book Encyclopedia for a number of years and Avon Products for 29 years. She was a china painter and was a past member of the Galesburg Prairie China Painters. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a past youth leader in the church. She was a former Cub Scout leader. She was a member of the first auxiliary police group established by the Abingdon Police Department. She was active in starting of the Abingdon Community Festival Association and served as chairman of the Arts and Crafts at the festival. Services will be at 10:00 am Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon with Father Joseph Presley officiating. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by Harry E.
