Gloria Williamson Obituary

passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. She was born June 19, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Gwendel and Hazel John. She married John Aaron Williamson on July 31, 1954 in Abingdon, Illinois. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, one son, Terry John (Sherry) Williamson of Delong, five daughters, Peggy June Glavas-Williamson of Galesburg, Tammy Joy Cress of St. Augustine, Penny Jo Williamson and Dr. Tonny Jill Williamson, both of Avon, and Patty Jan (Danny) Boone of Abingdon. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, Rose (Arlen) Walters of Sparta, Illinois, Sharon (Glen) Carnes of Galesburg and one brother, Charles (Joan) Semande of Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and Herman Semande. She was raised in Detroit, Michigan and later moved to the Avon area in 1948. Gloria graduated from Galesburg High School and attended Carl Sandburg College for two years. She was an adult Sunday school teacher and the worship service leader at the St. Augustine Christian Church for nearly thirty years. She was a faithful follower of Christ and a devoted wife and loving mother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Hinchliff- Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with a funeral service following the visitation at 7:00 p.m. A private family burial at their farm is planned for a later date. Memorials may be made to Kidney Cancer Association.
