Grace Marie Jensen Anderson

71 of Tampa, FL and Abingdon, IL died at 2:32 am Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL after a short illness. Born May 4, 1935, in Galesburg, IL, she was the daughter of Maurice and Eleanor (Knudsen) Jensen. She and James N. Anderson were married on June 14th, 1958 in Galesburg, IL. Surviving are her husband Jim of Abingdon and Tampa, FL; two sons Steven (and Suzanne) Anderson, grandchildren Natalie and David of Wheaton, IL; Eric (and Patricia) Anderson granddaughter Nicole of Wesley Chapel, FL. She is also survived by two sisters Elaine (and Don) Manworren of Dallas, TX, and Jeanette Vancil of Upland, CA. Grace graduated from Galesburg High School and Knox College. She was a sister in Tri-Delta sorority, and was active in alumni affairs at Knox. As a schoolteacher, Grace taught for many years in school districts in Illinois, Michigan, Delaware, and Florida. Grace enjoyed living abroad in the Netherlands and Belgium as well as different places in the U.S. during Jim's career in the plastics industry. She attended The United Methodist Church of Abingdon, and was a member of bridge clubs and Lake Bracken Country Club. Grace enjoyed the company of her husband Jim, her family and especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, golf and skiing. She battled cancer for many years. Her joyful spirit, love of life, positive attitude and endurance in the face of adversity are sources of inspiration to those who knew her. Funeral service 11:00 am Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Burial will in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 am Wednesday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society or to Knox College.
