Harold Derry Obituary

83, of 403 N. Maple St., Abingdon died at 6:13 pm Monday, January 16, 2006 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born May 28, 1922 in Knox County to Nelson Elwood and Laura Jane Conard Derry. He married Muriel Schisler on Dec. 23, 1943 in Palmyra, MO. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Brad (and Sherry) Derry of Abingdon; one daughter, Alice Philbee of Abingdon; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Derry of Galesburg and Ivan "Sandy" Derry of Berwick; three sisters, Virginia Swank and Pearl Schisler both of Abingdon and Doris Ginther Kohn of Green Valley, AZ; three grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters. He farmed with his dad for several years and later worked at the former Admiral Company in Galesburg for 24 years, where he worked in the paint shop, on the assembly line and the maintenance department. He moved to Abingdon in Oct. of 2004 and prior to that had lived east of Abingdon for 35 years. He enjoyed working on cars, doing carpenter work including demolition of area homes and reusing the building materials, fishing and was an avid collector. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Todd Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission or the Abingdon Public Schools Foundation.
