Harry Heck Obituary

90 of Abingdon died at 3:16 pm Saturday, January 27, 2007 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born April 19, 1916 near Aledo to Harrison H. and Myrtle Warren Heck. He married Leona F. Johnson on June 26, 1937 in Aledo, IL. She preceded him in death on June 5, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Roberta Murk Phillips, two brothers and a sister. Surviving is one son, William B. (and Jackie) Heck of Tecumseh, OK; two grandsons, Tom Murk of Crossville, IL and Bradley Heck of Leominster, MA; two granddaughters, Tamara Murk of Milwaukee, WI and Jennifer Heck of Tecumseh, OK; two great grandchildren, Austin Murk and Ava Steller; a sister, Winifred Halloran of Dekalb, IL. He grew up in the Aledo area and attended Aledo Schools. He farmed south of Abingdon in Indian Point Township for several years. He also was a former school bus driver and bus maintenance director for Abingdon schools. He was the driver and manager of the second hitch of Budweiser's famous Clydesdale horses and lived in New Hampshire for two years. He drove the eight horse hitch in two Orange Bowl parades in Miami, FL and in big events throughout mostly the eastern portion of the United States. He continued to work with Belgian horses on his farm south of Abingdon and would take them to parades, state fairs and contest all across the Midwest. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Thursday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 401 N. Washington St., Abingdon, IL 61410.
