Howard "Sam" Boyd

78 of RR Galesburg died at 6:30 am Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born August 26, 1926 in Bushnell to Harold E. and Lottie Helen Clark Boyd. He married Edna Geraldine "Gerry" Johnson on May 19, 1946 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death in October of 1981. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, David Lee Boyd, a granddaughter, Shelly Peacock, a grandson, Todd Josefson, three brothers, Edward Boyd, George Boyd and Vincil "Toot" Boyd, and one sister, Polly Zook. Surviving are one daughter, Carol (and Steve) Josefson of RR Galesburg; one brother, Max (and Jo) Boyd of Avon; three sisters, Phyllis (and Earnest) Repp of Avon, Barbara "Bob" Paul of Pekin and Betty (and Newt) Howard of Bushnell; 2 grandsons, Jason (and Jona) Josefson of Springfield and Chad (and Stacy) Josefson of RR Galesburg. He had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He worked for Briggs Mfg. (Abingdon Pottery) for 45 years as a sprayer and later as an inspector. He was a past director for the Abingdon Pottery Credit Union. He was of the Methodist Faith. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Raymond McLaren and Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Athletic Booster Club for use in the football and baseball programs.
