86 of 818 N. Washington St. died at 6:00 am Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at his home. He was born on August 27, 1919 in Garfield, KY to James M. and Carrie F. Meador Hook. He married Bertha Millett on August 14, 1943 in Brisbane, Australia. Surviving are one son, Rodney (and Rita) Hook of RR Abingdon; three daughters, Pauline (and Loren) Tessier of London Mills, Diane (and Roger Bice) Shugart of RR Abingdon and Susan (and Nathan) Johnson of Winslow, IL; seven brothers, Herbert Hook of Poplar Bluff, MO, Leonard Hook of Cameron, James E. Hook of Abingdon, Robert Hook of Galesburg, John Hook of Gainesville, TX, Jessie Hook of Galesburg and David Hook of West Burlington, IA; four sisters, Eddie Lee Schisler and Donna Gray of Abingdon, Betty Phipps of Galesburg and Anna Homer of Monmouth; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, one brother and two sisters. He had lived in the Abingdon, Hermon and St. Augustine areas most of his life and was a farmer in Knox, Warren and Fulton Counties. He also ran a recycling business in Hermon. He served in the Army during WW II with the 814th MP attached to the 5th Division and spent time in New Guinea, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and the Canary Islands. He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Cubs fan and really enjoyed sports, especially the Fighting Illini. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren Graveside service with Military Rites will be 10:00 am Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #381 Scholarship Fund.
