Mr. James O. Bevard, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois, died on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. James was born on March 22, 1931 in Galesburg, son of Charles E. and Jessie F. (Dilts) Bevard. He later married Inez M. Wickwire, preceding him in death on August 13, 2019.
He is survived by his daughter Cheryl (Robert) Chambers of Moline, Illinois, and stepdaughter, Shirley (Leo) Buescher of Galesburg. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Troy (Angie) Kenney, Wendy (Dirk) Welch of Morton, Illinois, Holly (Dave) Schofield of Peoria, Illinois, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both his parents, wife, Inez Bevard, and 2 sisters, Marie Crabtree and Ruby Johnson.
James served in the United States Marine Corps, earning the rank of PFC (Private First Class) during his time in the service.
James went to Galesburg High School and went on to work in the Auto Sales Industry for 40 years. He worked at Lakis Ford in Galesburg, during the last 8 years of his work life, retiring in 1993. James was a member of the Protestant Faith, as well as a member of the American Legion #285. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, working on cars and watching the Cubs play, he was a devoted fan of the team. James also had a loving passion for dogs and breeding them, especially Poodles and Dobermans.
