84, 709 N. Washington St. died at 8:50 am Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg. He was born May 15, 1919 in Abingdon to Glenn T. and Mabel E. Loquist Bowton. He married Annetta Barton on January 15, 1940 in Burlington, IA. She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Marjorie (and Marion) Hopkins of Abingdon; two sons, Terry (and Linda) Bowton of Coralville, IA and Daniel (and Janet) Bowton of Mahomet, IL; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, James D. Bowton and Wendi Bowton, and three sisters. He had lived in Abingdon all his life and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1937 He worked at the Gamble Store in Abingdon starting his senior year in high school and owned and operated the store from 1967 until he retired in 1982. He currently worked as the bookkeeper for Severns Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning in Abingdon, where he started in 1984. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. He was a decorated Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Services will be at 11:00 am Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. The Rev. Paul D. Dinges will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery with military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Friends may call from 6:00 é
