James Harrison Obituary

Mr. James W. Harrison, 96, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 11:48 am. Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Seminary Manor Nursing Home.

Jim was born June 27, 1926, in Galesburg, the son of Arthur B. and Delia (Hurt) Harrison. He married Mary Jean DeSollar on May 28, 1958, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on September 30, 2010. He also was preceded in death by his special friend, Dottie Lee Lovell on April 21, 2021.

Jim is survived by his two daughters, Sandy (Steve) Mills of Knoxville, Illinois and Lori (Justin) Moore of Oneida, Illinois; his two brothers, Arthur B. Harrison, Jr. and Eddie Harrison both of Galesburg; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren with one on the way due in April and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his daughter, Janice Kimble, his sister, Audrey Sandall and his grandson, Kevin Moore.

Jim graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943 and then served in the US Navy from 1944-1950 during World War II on a destroyer in the South Pacific as a Seaman 1st class.

Returning home, he worked 30 years for OMC Gale Products as a tool and die maker and later as an electrician, retiring in 1985. He lived most of his life in Galesburg. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and later attended the Four-Square Gospel Church. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a love for fishing, camping and eating good food. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and loved watching them play. Jim also had a love for motorcycles and rode out to California in his younger days.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00-Noon, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Military Honors by the Knox County Honor Guard at 10:00 am at the chapel. The burial will be held at a later date in East Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
