James S. Humphrey, MSGT, USAF, Retired, 72, of Galesburg, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 2021, in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born September 22, 1949, in Galesburg, the son of Henry and Anna Irene (Hood) Humphrey. He married Fawn Elaine Hare. He later married Peggy S. Yarde on June 8, 1989, in Burlington, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife of over 32 years, Peggy; a daughter, Kali Lynn Humphrey of Galesburg; a son, David LeRoy Humphrey of Galesburg; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Sandy) Humphrey of Galesburg; and two sisters, Debbie Sue Caulley and Debra Santo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kevin A. Humphrey; three brothers; and two sisters, one in infancy.
After a nearly 18-year career in the United States Air Force, James returned to Galesburg, where he worked as a custodian for Knox College and Bradley University, before retiring. James was a train enthusiast and enjoyed gardening.
Private family entombment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be presented. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
