Jenna Bird Obituary

70, a resident of the Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center in Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon died at 5:55 am Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Marigold. She was born on June 8, 1939 in Macomb, IL to Fred and Edythe (Polite) Mathis. She married Richard "Dick" Bird on December 28, 1957. He survives. Jenna is also survived by her children, Kelly (and Tim) McVey of Abingdon and Michael (and Kayla) Bird of Knoxville; her grandchildren, Luke (and Shannon) McVey, Dan McVey, Madelyn Bird and Meghan Bird: her great grandson, Trayson McVey. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Dewey Trone of Roseville and Tom (and Irma) Bird of Alexis and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Billa Trone. She loved her parents and sister deeply. She graduated from Macomb High School in 1957. She had worked at Ray's Hardware Store in Abingdon, the VNA in Galesburg and later at Ace Hardware in Galesburg retiring in 1997. Jenna was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church and a past member of the Abingdon Jr. Woman's Club. Her interest included her family and grandchildren, redecorating homes, gardening, piano music, baking and she loved life in Florida where she and her husband had retired to in the Clearwater and Oldsmar areas. She had returned back to Abingdon in 2005 and had lived in Galesburg the past month. Cremation will be accorded. Recognition of life service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Abingdon Christian Church. Rev. Jerald Hill will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Private family scattering of her cremains will be in the Scattering Garden, East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg. In Jenna's honor, memorials may be made to the Gordon Behrents Senior Center.
