Jerry Ira Boone

Jerry Ira Boone, 73, of Galesburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at his home in Galesburg, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born to James and Mildred E. (Derks) Boone on July 9, 1949 in Galesburg.

Jerry is survived by his son Jeffrey J. Boone, his daughters Tina M. Nelson, and Tara M. Boone, his brother Jamie A. Boone, his sister Dorothy May Gardner, and his grandchildren Laura E. Boone, Sarah G. Boone, Ethan H. Boone, Andreas L. Arvatu, Ember R. Nelson, and Darren R. Nelson. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry was born and raised in Galesburg. Shortly after graduating from college with his associate’s degree, Jerry was drafted into the United States Army and served as a cartographer from July of 1969 to July of 1971. After his honorable discharge Jerry would return to work for General Electric and eventually for the Kress Corporation as a design draftsman. Jerry loved to fish in his free time and would often make his own lead weights to use for his fishing poles. However, Jerry was known better for being an avid sponsor with the programs Narcotics Anonymous, and Alcoholics Anonymous, and was devoted to helping those suffering from addiction. He was a good friend to those in need of a guiding hand through the program, and had made many people’s experience with the program that more meaningful.

A visitation will be held Friday March 10, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg, with cremation to follow. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
