95, of 104 W. Lower St. died at 9:35 am Thursday, August 28, 2003 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born on December 3, 1907 in Claiborne, TN to Flemiel and Ollie Nelson Smith. He married Lillian Cline in 1924 in Cumberland Gap, TN. He married Phyllis Kennedy in June of 1941 in Palmyra, MO. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, James E. (and Helen) Smith of Melbourne, FL, Warren (and Beatrice) Smith and Robert (and Betty) Smith both of Tazwell, TN, Donald (and Carol) Smith of Green Valley, AZ; one daughter, Connie (and Raymond) Adolphson of Avon, IL; two sisters, Hazel Mills and Media Young both of Tazwell, TN; 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one great grandchild, three brothers and two sisters. He had lived in Abingdon since 1939. He was a machinist at the former Gale Products division of OMC in Galesburg for 26 years retiring in February of 1973. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Abingdon. Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27, at 1:30 pm at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with Eleanor Landon officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Care Center of Abingdon or the Abingdon Cemetery Beautification Fund.
