Julia Maxine Cassel

81, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon, died at 11:50 am Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Care Center. She was born on February 22, 1926 in Springfield, IL to Harry and Nina Whipp Rountree. She married Joseph M. Cassel on August 20, 1955 in Pekin, IL. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1986. She is survived by eleven children, Donna Stevenson of Abingdon, IL, Robert Mathis of California, Richard Hoerr of Arizona, John Mathis of Illinois, Robert Adams of Arkansas, Marty Adams of Florida, Gary Adams of New Baden, IL, Jim Pfeifer of Illinois, John Pfeifer of Illinois, John Cassel of Florida and Julie Cassel of Galesburg, IL; a half-brother, Harry Rountree of California and a half-sister, Mary Rountree of California; 29 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother. She last worked as a security guard at Maytag Manufacturing in Galesburg. She had also worked at several area restaurants and was a tax return preparer. She enjoyed playing the piano. Graveside service will be at 10:30 am Monday, December 17, 2007 at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Rev. Gretchen Sterrett of Zion United Church of Christ, New Baden, IL will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
