Karl E. Hitz

79 of 301 S. East St., Lot 69 died at 8:10 am Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born on September 27, 1927 near Plymouth, IL to Ira and Jennie Woods Hitz. He married Nancy Jane Miller on September 9, 1950 in Denver, IL. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2004. Surviving are three daughters, Kathy (and George) Kilburn of Abingdon, Syrita Reed of Galesburg and Connie (and Everett) White of Table Grove; three sons, Melvin (and Barb) Hitz of Monmouth, Gene (and Dee) Hitz of Abingdon and Allan (and Kathy) Hitz of Roberts, IL; a sister, Marie Clark of Carthage; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Sharon Carpenter, one granddaughter, one brother and one sister. He was a farmer. He also worked for White Implement in Avon for 30 years. He had lived in Abingdon since 1994. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Chicago Bears football team and the Miami Heat basketball team. Graveside service will be at 11:30 am Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family.
